Over the last several years I have personally experienced the transformative power of friendship with those on the margins of our economically segregated society. The experience has enriched my life tremendously. This requires a willingness to move from the middle toward the margins. It is not comfortable to move toward the margins of the social map and make a homeless friend but the journey is well worth the difficulty involved. Consider the following definitions of "edge" and ask yourself what might be the potential rewards if you moved toward the margin and made a friend at the edge of your personal comfort zone.
Edge (noun):
Penetrating power: KEENNESS
The line where an object or area begins or ends: BORDER
A point near the beginning or the end: BRINK, VERGE
A favorable margin: ADVANTAGE
"on edge": ANXIOUS, NERVOUS
Go ahead. Make a friend on the edge of your social world. You can do it!
